How to Choose the Right Painter for Your Project

Painting can be a major task, but a fresh coat can give your home an instant pick me up. Giving the inside and outside of your property a facelift with a quality paint job will make your home more attractive while potentially increasing its value. Unfortunately, we often hear horror stories from people who have paid for inferior paintwork and hire us to fix mistakes made by inexperienced painters. Common complaints include overcharging, drip stains and contractors who simply disappear. At WA Ceiling Fixers we have the experience and commitment to get the job done right the first time.

If you are on the hunt for a painter, you should ask the following questions:

Are They Experienced?

Painting may look easy, but it can be more complicated than a quick dip in the tin and a swipe across the wall or ceiling. Older homes may require restoration, and this could be caused by cracking or water damage. Someone with experience in repair and restoration will be able to assess your project and come up with the right solution. Colour matching, efficiency and accuracy all come with experience and if you want a stress free process, a skilled tradesperson will be worth the investment. Look for painter with a registration number (ours is Registered Painting Practitioner PP4364, and Registered Painting Contractor PC436) and make sure if you ARE paying full price for someone with experience that you don’t get an apprentice instead.

Are They Reliable?

Just like anything, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is! If a painter makes promises that seem unrealistic, you might end up being left in the lurch. Ask for a timeframe for when the job will be completed, and how many days they will be there each week. You don’t want to get a half completed paint job then have to wait weeks for them to come back. Someone local will generally be more reliable as they will have less distance to travel. At WA Ceiling Fixers we service the Perth region and pride ourselves on our reliability.

Do They Have a Good Reputation?

Simply Googling a company to look for reviews could be a mistake. Sometimes businesses write their own reviews which deceives customers into believing something which isn’t genuine. The best way is the old fashioned way. And, that is through word of mouth. Finding out what previous customers thought is a great way to assess whether your painter will be reliable. Not only should they show up on time and do quality work, but they should leave the surrounding area clean and tidy when they leave.

Can They Give You What You Want?

The most important questions to ask is, can they give you what you want? This could be a feature wall, freshen up or colour change. An experienced painter should be able to offer you advice on what will work and what won’t, while honouring your personal preferences. At WA Ceiling Fixers we do more than just a paint job. We can restore and repair ceilings and walls, repair plaster, seamlessly fix any rose work and cornices and finish it off with a flawless painted finish. We can paint inside and out, and give your home the complete service if required. Contact us today for a free quote!

When you notice the signs of a sagging ceiling, this should serve as a warning that there is the potential for collapse. While older homes may encounter obvious complications which come with age, ceiling collapse can occur even in newer builds.
